The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen and his Deputy, Benjamin Okezie Kalu have congratulated Nigerian Muslims as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir with other Muslims all over the world.
They conveyed their felicitations in two separate congratulatory messages by their Spokespersons on Saturday.
In his message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker called on Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders, while urging them to be supportive and cooperative for a better Nigeria.
He said the celebration is about total submission to higher authority, sacrifice, and charity.
He urged Nigerians to imbibe these virtues in their daily lives.
Speaker Abbas said the celebration has a major significance in the life of Muslims, as it reminds the people of the supremacy of Allah and the importance of sacrifice.
He urged Nigerians, especially Muslims, to use this period for sober reflection and be their brother’s keeper at all times.
The Speaker, who wished Muslims happy celebrations, prayed to Allah to accept their sacrifices.
On his part, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu in his message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, he called the Muslim faithful and all other Nigerians to pursue unity and national cohesion, adopting the age-old maxim “united we stand, divided we fall”.
He reminded the people about the sacrifice which he said is the cornerstone of the celebrations.
Kalu also encouraged them to eschew selfishness and imbibe the teachings of Prophet MUhammad (PBUH) whose life provided a profound example of moral excellence, compassion, and leadership that transcends religious boundaries.
He called on Nigerians to cultivate virtuous qualities and seek to build a more just and compassionate society where there will be no discriminations irrespective of religious and ethnic backgrounds.
He added that, the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working assiduously to better the lot of the citizenry through his Renewed Hope agenda even as he called for persistent prayers for leaders at all levels of government.
He wished all Muslims happy celebrations, the deputy speaker also appealed to them to share the times with the underserved in the society in the spirit of love and sacrifice.
