The Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, has embarked on inspection of ongoing classroom projects across the state.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee had visited projects in some schools in Wurno, Rabah, Bodinga, Wamakko, Shagari, Yabo, Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Government Areas (LGAs) to assess the level of progress made.
The Committee Chairman, Buhari Haliru (PDP- Sokoto North I) commended some of the contractors for maintaining standard, but warned those lagging behind and whose works were substandard to immediately do the needful.
“As you can see, most of the contractors with standard work done were only given 15 per cent mobilisation fee but some have already reached 80 to 90 per cent level of completion.
“We are truly impressed with the way we see some of the works and also dismayed with others, while some have not even moved to the site.
“However, as lawmakers, we will not condone any irregularity and I am, therefore, calling on those contractors to come to the state assembly for explanation,” he said.
Some of the prolect sites visited included; Kandam Primary School, Marnona Primary School and Gidan Bango Primary School in Wurno LGA as well as Kogogo Rijiya Primary School in Rabah LGA.
NAN reports that the committee had earlier inspected Rigar Busau Primary School and Gidan Tsara Primary School in Bodinga LGA, and Gobire Primary School and Wajake Primary School in Wamakko LGA.
Also visited were JSS Dagawa and Zezi Primary School in Yabo LGA, as well as Marake Primary School and Gadara Primary School in Shagari LGA.
Others were, Gidan Salihu Primary, Gidan Dare Primary and Salhu Anka Primary in Sokoto North LGA as well as JSS Mana and Nakasari Primary School in Sokoto South LGA.
Meanwhile, some of the contractors who appeared before the committee attributed their failure to start the project to heavy rainfall in the areas allocated to them
