Former Governor of Gombe State and incumbent Senator representing Gombe Central, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje on Wednesday extolled the virtues of Buhari’s ex-Minister of Science , Technology and Innovation, former Abia Governor Senator Ogbonnaya Onu.
Speaking at Senate plenary session, Senator Danjuma Goje who took time to recount the gentility and elderly approach of Senator Ogbonnaya Onu said he is joining Nigerians in paying tribute to a great Politician and a great patriot.
He said “I never had the opportunity of meeting him one on one until in 2013 when we were discussing the formation of APC, most speakers limited their talks to CPC, ACN, ANPP but they never mentioned the substantial part of the PDP, I belong to that part of the PDP that pulled out to team up with the other parties to form the APC which is now the ruling party. Ogbonnaya’s role in forming the party was very commendable, he was the leader of the ANPP, we hard series of meeting with him, he hardly speaks but anytime he speaks, people listen to him attentively. ”
“I thought he was far older than me, I use to think maybe he was born in the 40s because he behaves very elderly but he was just a year older than me, but he behaves like a gentleman, like a leader and that’s why everybody want to speak about him. ” He added.
Ogbonnaya Onu CON, was born on the 1st December 1951 and died on the 11 April 2024. He was a Nigerian politician, author and engineer. He was the first civilian governor of Abia State and was the minister of science, technology and innovation of Nigeria from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022. He was the longest serving minister of the ministry.
