Nigerian Tunde Onakoya has set a new world record by completing the longest chess marathon, Sputnik Africa reported.
He played continuously for over 58 hours in New York City’s Times Square without being defeated to raise money for underprivileged children in Africa.
Speaking to the media after the Chess Marathon, he said, “I can’t process a lot of the emotions I feel right now. I don’t have the right words for them. But I know we did something truly remarkable”.
Onakoya founded an organization called Chess in Slums in 2008 which provides marginalized youth with a place to develop their chess skills.
