JUST IN: NNPP Stakeholders Seek Removal Of Gombe State Ag. Chairman
BY NAJIB SANI, GOMBE
Some stakeholders of the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Billiri local government area of Gombe State who include some wards, local government executives and former officials of the party have called for the removal of the state acting chairman Rambi Ayala over alleged anti party activities and instigation of crisis within the party at the local government level.
Addressing press conference in Gombe yesterday, the spokesperson of the stakeholders Amatiga Naboth alleged that the acting state chairman worked against the interest of the party in the 2023 general elections when he allegedly abdicated his task as the party’s returning officer for gubernatorial election.
He alleged that Ayala also mobilised people to vote for Labour Party candidate of Billiri east constituency in the state assembly election.
The stakeholders further accused the party chairman of presiding over a party meeting at the local government without the consent and knowledge of the local government party chairman Ambrose Isma’ila Mairungu where new executives were appointed for the party in the area.
They therefore called on the national secretariat of the NNPP to remove the state acting chairman to “stop him from destroying the party”.
However, in his reaction, Ayala dismissed the allegations saying the state leadership was conducting restructuring by filling the gaps in the wards and local governments leadership across the state with positions that are vacant with a view to strengthening the party.
He also said that the person calling for his removal are not real party men but were sponsored to do so “like some were sponsored to suspend the national leader of the party Rabiu Kwankwaso in recent time”.
