The Kebbi Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Jafar Mohammad, says the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will accredit 86 primary and 12 secondary healthcare facilities in the state for the contributory healthcare scheme.
Muhammad made this known on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, at a maiden planning meeting on accreditation between the NHIS, Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) and other stakeholders in the state.
“A 20-man team of expert from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) led by their Deputy General Manager, Dr Okoh Christopher, came to the state to accredit 86 primary healthcare and 12 secondary health facilities.
“The facilities were shortlisted to deliver health services under the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Scheme and Basic Healthcare Provision Fund,’’ he said.
Muhammad assured the team of the state’s commitment to the smooth take-off of the scheme in the state.
Earlier, Christopher gave the assurance that the agency would begin operation in the state soon.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr Jafar Augie, commended the team for its prompt response in respect of the accreditation.
“This is an important milestone towards a functional state social health insurance scheme and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
“As you all know the state has 21 Local Government Areas, and therefore, the proposed health facilities are distributed across the LGAs,’’ he said.
Augie urged the agency’s staff to avail themselves the opportunity to learn and master the facility accreditation checklist in line with the concept of Health Insurance Under One-Roof (HIUOR).
