…Renovation of healthcare, educational facilities too

Cross River State House of Assembly has called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to victims of the recent fire disaster in Ini-Abasi community in Bakassi local government area of the State.
The call was sequel to a resolution adopted by the State House of Assembly after conclusion of debate on a matter of urgent public importance, “on the large scale fire outbreak in Ini-Abasi fishing community in Bakassi,” sponsored by the member representing Bakassi State Constituency, Hon. Eyo Bassey Edet.
Hon. Edet had while speaking on the motion informed the lawmakers of the fire disaster, noting that it occurred in the fishing community on January 9, 2024.
He stressed the urgent need for the state government to provide relief materials such as building materials and fishing equipment to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
Hon. Edet who also regretted that the fire incident had caused his people to suffer great loses added that, government intervention would apart from providing succour to the people, enable them to rebuild and resume their fishing activities.
In their separate contributions, the lawmakers, who sympathized with the victims, also lamented that the destruction would have been minimal if there was a fire fighter station and vehicles in the area.
In another development, the Cross River House of Assembly has called on the state government to as a matter of urgency embark on the renovation of healthcare and educational facilities in Obubra I State Constituency.
The House of Assembly made the call when it adopted the resolution to that effect after deliberation on the motion brought before the State Legislature by the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, Hon Ovat Agbor.
Opening debate on the motion, the sponsor, Hon. Ovat Agbor, had explained that the healthcare and educational facilities were destroyed during the communal clash in the area.
