A 35-year-old bricklayer, Ibrahim Aliyu, who allegedly broke into a house and stole building materials worth N147, 000 on Thursday appeared in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court.
The police charged Aliyu of Tipper garage, Gwarinpa Abuja, with criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, of FCT Command Abuja, told the court that the complainant, Alhaji Aderemi Akinose of Citec Estate, Jabi Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police station on Aug. 15.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant acted in a dubious manner and criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house situated at Gwarinpa Estate.
Ejike alleged that the defendant stole two wooden doors valued at N50, 000, a wash hand basin valued at N45, 000, a door protector valued at N40, 000, four electric bulbs and lamp holders valued at N12, 000.
He said the defendant was later arrested and during police investigation, he could not give a satisfactory account of his mission into the house.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348, 354 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
Chief Magistrate Celestine Odo, admitted the defendant to a N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Odo ordered that the sureties be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and should deposit a valid means of identification, which must be verified by the court’s registrar.
He adjourned the matter until Oct. 15, for hearing.
