Most of the movies we have seen and enjoyed are full of behind the scenes performances which appear real on our screens.
Those dangerous scenes are replete with accidents and near death situations for the actors who persevere to keep us entertained.
Below is a list of some dangerous scenes of actors who escaped being permanently disabled or even killed from mistakes made on the scenes.
1. Brendan Frazer
Frazer was choked and fell unconscious while acting a hanging scene in “The Mummy”
According to the Actor, he was choked while trying to make the scene look more real. He was taking a deep breath when he barred down on his nose at the same time the rope was going up, putting pressure on his neck.
Before he knew it, he was being hanged and fell unconscious. Luckily for him, he was rescued and resustated by a stunt director.
2. Jason Statham
Statham was testing a truck before a stunt drive when the breaks failed and he ended up hitting two cameramen and plunging the car into the bottom of the Black Sea. He nearly drowned while in the vehicle. Luckily, he swam to the surface fast enough to save everyone’s blushes. Nobody sustained any injuries in the incident.
3. Jackie Chan
During a scene in his famous film ‘Armour of God” which he was required to chug a beer and leap from a ledge while swinging from a tree, he leaped unto the tree but slipped while trying to swing off. Chan fell heavily to the ground sustaining serious injuries. He had to be carried down the mountain bleeding from his ears as his body went numb. Chan was lucky that there were surgeons around to help stabilize him.
The actor later admitted that he had a Close-Shave with death during the failed stunt.
3. Isler Fisher
Fisher also nearly drowned on the set of the film “Now You See Me”. She was chained in a tank of water and was meant to escape.
The chain was supposed to be lax to allow her riggle free with ease. The problem was, the chain used was too strong for her to break free from and escape as per the script. Fisher reported panicking underwater but the crew thought she was just acting.
Fisher was however, lucky when one of the crew members realized that her struggles have gone beyond acting and raised alarm, leading to her rescue, this is after she had drowned for sometimes.
4. Michael Fox
In the trilogy, “Back To The Future” the actor had a nasty experience in a hanging scene involving his character, Marty McFly.
He was being hanged in a town square when the rope got a little tight around his neck causing him to pass out. He was saved by Doctor Brown after going unconscious for several seconds.
5. Sylvester Stallone
The actor popularly known as “Rambo”, was acting a flight scene which he wanted to look as real as possible on the set of “Rocky IV”. To achieve his desired effect, he told his co-star, Dolph Lundgren to knock him out. Problem was, Dolph Lundgren appeared to have hit too hard in the chest, breaking Stallone’s rib. As it turned out, Stallone was just lucky that Dolph’s blows narrowly missed his heart.
After the scene, Stallone knew something was wrong and went to the doctor where he was told that, he had injuries similar to those sustained during a head-on collision in vehicles.
Stallone spent Nine days in ICU to nurse his injuries.
6.Dylan O’Brien
The actor sustained injuries including a concussion and a facial fracture when he was hit by a stunt car in 2016 on the set of “Maze Runner”.
The shooting of the movie had to be put on hold for nearly a year as he recovers from the injuries.
7. Aaron Paul
Something went wrong while Paul was thrown through a screen door in a fighting scene in the AMC show “Breaking Bad”.
He ended up in a compromising position while being kicked and he had to call out for the scene to stop because he was injured. Unfortunately , the hitting continued as the crew thought he was just acting.
Paul who was badly injured after the scene had to be carried to hospital, finishing the scene only after he had recovered.
8. Tom Cruise
Popular for making his own stunts was almost decapitated with a Sword while acting a scene on the set of the popular film, “The Last Samurai”.
Cruise was riding a mechanical horse and was supposed to duck and dodge a Sword aimed at his neck by his co-actor, Hiroyuki Sanada. However, the mechanical horse malfunctioned and threw him off balance, making it hard for Cruise to duck as planned to avoid the Sword. Luckily for him, his co-actor realized what happened and reacted in time by withdrawing the Sword, the reflex action which saved Cruise’s neck from being slashed by the sharp Sword which might have been fatal.
