The Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna State Council on Thursday declared the the elections and inauguration of the FRCN Chapel official illegal.
A statement jointly signed by Asma’u Yawo Halilu Council Chairman and Gambo Santos Sanga Council Secretary said “the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, views with seriousness the attempt by some persons to stand the Constitution of the NUJ on its head through illegal conduct of election into the FRCN Chapel of the Council.”
“In this regard, the Council wishes to state unequivocally and to declare that the Umar S. Fada-led executive of the FRCN Chapel is unconstitutional, illegal, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
“The Credentials Committee that inaugurated the Fada-led executive committee breached the provisions of the NUJ constitution particularly with regards to electoral procedures, processes and conduct of election.” It stressed.
It maintained that, Article 6 of the NUJ constitution, specifically sub-section 6 states that in all cases, only the State Working Committee (SWC) shall supervise Chapel’s election after other provisions stipulated in Article 6 sub-section 7 (a -g) must have been complied with.
“In that regard, only the State Council shall carry out the final screening of aspirants before the conduct of an election and subsequent inauguration.
“Significantly, the Credentials Committee that conducted election into the FRCN Chapel, violated all the rules enunciated in the Constitution and illegally went ahead to inaugurate an Executives that was not properly elected in spite of communication to that effect.
“It is on this premise that the Council, based on the powers vested on it by the provisions of the NUJ Constitution, hereby declare the election and or inauguration illegal.
The Council advises members of the public to disregard the illegally constituted executive committee of the FRCN Kaduna Chapel.
“Following this development, the Council will communicate the next line of action in line with the provisions of the NUJ constitution.”
