Timely intervention of passers-by saved a middle age man driving a car alongside his sister from being burnt to death as a result of a fire outbreak.
The fire incident which occurred at about 1pm along Kachia Road, Kaduna, emanated from the car dashboard, which burnt the Mercedes Benz C300 beyond recognition today.
New Nigerian correspondent who got to scene of the incident while the car was still ablaze, spoke to the driver of the car who was still in a state of shock.
The driver and car owner who simply identified himself as Bello Safaru said he left Abuja some two hours ago, enroute Zamfara with his sister in the passenger’s seat.
“We have had a smooth ride all long from Abuja until We got to Kaduna this afternoon when I noticed smoke coming out from the bonnet through the car dashboard.
“I hurriedly parked and came down in an effort to quench the fire, but unfortunately, the inferno had already overpowered any human efforts and the car burnt completely beyond repairs and recognition,” he lamented.
An eye witness, Salisu Musa narrated to our reporter how he and other volunteers tried unsuccessfully to save the car after rescuing the lady who was still inside the burning automobile.
“We were just across the road when we noticed a man in his early forties struggling to put out a smoke that was gradually building into a fire.
“We crossed over and bought out the lady from the vehicle and the man too, we took them to a safe distance away from the car which exploded thereafter.
“I believe the car must have overheated or there was an electrical fault somewhere.
“Drivers should endeavour to ensure their vehicles are in good shape and have functioning fire extinguishers placed in an easy to retrieve area in the car,” he advised.
