A Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that a 40-year old businessman, Sunday Achir, who allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending legal advice.
The police charged Achir, who lives in Tse-Agberagba in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue, with defilement, punishable under the provisions of Section 284 of the Penal Code law of Benue, 2004.
Chief Magistrate Vincent Kor, who did not take the plea of Achir for want of jurisdiction, adjourned the matter until Sept 14, for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Hyacinth Gbakor told the court that the case was transferred from Tse-Agberagba Police Station on Aug 14, 2020 to the state CID, Makurdi via a letter dated July 14, 2020.
Prosecutor informed the court that investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked for an adjournment.
Gbakor said one Daniel Kasua of Tse-Agberagba town, reported at the police station on July 3, 2020
that his 11-year-old sister was defiled.
He alleged that Achir dragged his sister to his house on her way from the market and defiled her.
