Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned attacks on Ayilamo and Mbachohon communities in Logo and Gwer-West local government areas of the state by suspected armed herders.
It was gathered that the armed men who have been on the rampage in the state, killing unsuspecting citizens, invaded the communities on Tuesday night and shot sporadically, leading to the death of an unspecified number of villagers.
Several houses were also burnt down during the attack, leading to the displacement of residents.
Reacting to the incident, Alia in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, frowned at the nefarious activities of the herders.
He lamented how the terrorists are killing innocent Benue citizens in cold blood for reasons which, according to him, are difficult to grasp and pin down.
The governor stated that his administration “cannot watch people killed daily on their farmlands and their villages for a cause very unknown to us”.
While sympathizing with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the attacks, Alia called on security agencies in the state to quickly apprehend those suspected to be behind such incidents and bring them before the law.
He also called on traditional rulers and youths in the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
