Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi, has alleged that Yahaya Bello, governor of the state, is seeking a third term in office through a proxy.
Melaye spoke on Monday night when he featured on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
Ahmed Ododo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kogi, is Bello’s anointed candidate for the gubernatorial election scheduled to take place on November 11 in the state.
Melaye alleged that Bello is backing Ododo to remain in power because the latter would act as his stooge.
“Don’t be deceived that Yahaya Bello is not on the ballot,” Melaye said.
“Ododo is physically on the ballot but Yahaya Bello is the one seeking a third term through a proxy.
“I will not want this debate to be about Yahaya Bello, rather I would like to market my political party and market what we have for the people of Kogi state
Melaye expressed confidence that he will win the governorship election, saying with the resources in Kogi, the state has no business being where it is.
Early this month, Melaye said his desire to become governor is hinged on liberating “the people of Kogi state from the stranglehold of the very insensitive and incompetent” APC.
