Mrs Becky Orpin, Member representing Gboko East in the Benue House of Assembly, has targeted 10,000 children for deworming in the Constituency.
Orpin (APC), who launched the exercise on Sunday in Gboko East, which covers Mbayion, Yandev and Ipav wards, said child healthcare was the focal point of her legislative agenda.
She expressed regrets that poor nutrition and access to quality health had remained an impediment to the growth of children in developing countries, maintaining that every child had the right to survival and attainment of their full potentials.
“Government has the responsibility to provide for the child the best and attainable health.
“A system of support should be made for them to develop their full potentials, and it is why I suggest that a state of emergency should be declared by government in the health sector.
“This is my modest way to assist the children in my constituency, as children’s health is the focal point of my legislative agenda,” Orpin said.
Mr Tyohemba Agba, Orpin’s partner and Chief Executive Officer of Tyonex Pharmaceuticals, Nigeria Limited, observed that more than 1.5 billion children worldwide were suffering from worm infections.
Agba therefore, said that deworming them would curb anaemia, prevent infections and give them an opportunity to grow healthy and intelligently. (NAN)
