The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III,CFR, on Saturday conferred the traditional title of Sarkin Malaman Gombe on former Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmed Abubakar Walama
The letter of appointment was delivered to him by a Gombe Emirate delegation led by Shamakin Gombe, Alhaji Usman Muhammad.
Speaking when he delivered the letter, he said the honour was in recognition of Hon Walama’s service to humanity, promotion of peace, loyalty and commitment to the cause of Gombe emirate.
He said, “Gombe Emirate does not give title anyhow but to people who deserve its title like the very personality we are recognising today.
“Your respect and loyalty to the Emirate have been appreciated by His Royal Highness. We are wishing you the best of luck as you take the role of Sarkin Malaman Gombe”.
Speaking on behalf of the family of Late Sarkin Malaman Gombe, Prof. Sani Jauro thanked Gombe Emirate for the honour.
He said, “I am running short of words in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to His Royal Highness the Emir of Gombe and Chairman Gombe State Council of Traditional Rulers and Cheifs, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, lll, CFR, for the recognition and honour done to our brother, Ahmed Walama and the family at large.”
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were representatives of Emirs of Kaltungo, Dukku, Funakaye and Nafada, Grand Khadi of Gombe State Hon. Justice Abdullahi Maikano Usman, former Minister of Health Dr Abubakar Ali Gombe, traditional title holders, former and present political office holders among others
