To enhance the development of athletics in Gombe State, Hon Ahmed Shuaibu Gara, Chairman of the Gombe State Athletics Association, has announced plans to establish an athletics academy.
Following the recently concluded Gombe 2023 Inter Primary Schools Athletics Championship, the academy will initially enroll 28 athletes who participated in the competition.
Upon the academy’s establishment, essential learning materials such as exercise books, school bags, cleaners, sharpeners, pencils, and sports equipment, including three sets of canvases and t-shirts for training, will be provided.
Furthermore, an eleven-member committee will be appointed to oversee the affairs of the academy, and free medical insurance coverage will be offered to the students.
Gara has urged the headmasters and game masters of the schools to be prepared for discussions with the Local Education Authority, appreciating the parents for allowing their children to participate and commending Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his dedication to sports in the state.
He also expressed gratitude to Hon Usman Aliyu Ashaka, the ALGON chairman of Gombe State, for contributing N200,000 towards the initiative.
