A Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered that a welder, Ismalla Kamilu, and a carpenter, Bashiru Abdullahi, who allegedly stole N830,000, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending bail application.
The police charged Kamilu, 20, and Abdullahi, 18, all of Lugbe Zone 4 by Hausa Mosque Abuja, with joint act, shop breaking and theft.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, adjourned the case until Oct. 7, for hearing in the bail application, after the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Francis Gabriel, told the court that the complainant, Basuir Mu’Azu, of the same address reported the matter at the Trade More Police Station on Aug. 5.
Gabriel alleged that on Aug. 2 at about 1 a.m the defendants and two others, now at large, broke into the complainant’s shop in Lugbe Zone 4 Airport Road Abuja and stole N830, 000.
He told the court that on Aug. 5 the defendants also broke into another shop and attempted to steal.
The prosecution counsel said that during police investigation the defendants could not give a satisfactory account of themselves.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections and 79, 358 and 278 of the Penal Code.
