Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives after its inauguration on Tuesday.
He got 353 votes to defeat the immediate-past Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmed Idris Wase (APC, Plateau) and Aminu Sani Jaji (APC, Zamfara), who scored three votes each.
All the 359 members-elect present at the inauguration voted in the open ballot system in which members announce who they are voting for as the Speaker.
It could be recalled that, the House has 360 members, but a member-elect from Taraba State died shortly after the elections.
On the other hand, Benjamin Kalu emerged as the Deputy to Abbas unopposed.
Both were adopted by the APC as it’s concensus candidates which was announced by the party’s NWC.
The decision was however opposed by the other aspirants to the seats.
