The Deputy Speaker of the defunct 9th House of Representatives,Ahmed Idris Wase has stated that, he remained in the race for the Speaker of the incoming 10th House to see the fulfilment of a Prophesy by the late former governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lar.
He stated this while making a remark at the Valedictory session held by the House on Wednesday after the House Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC,Kano) pleaded with other aspirants to stepdown for the All Progressives Congress (APC) concensus candidate, Tajuddeen Abbas.
He said, late Lar had predicted his coming to the House of Representatives and becoming the Deputy Speaker and becoming the Speaker when he returns.
He paid special tribute to late Solomon Lar for his support and mentorship which contributed alot to his political success not only as a Plateau citizen, but as a Nigerian.
“Of course, I want to appreciate my political leaders, among whom I would say is Solomon Lar who, when I was contesting 2007, I went to him and he prophesized the number of times I will come to this Assembly.
“And I will tell this crowd and to the world, that he said, I will come to the Assembly in the number of times and prophesized even the number of leadership that I will attain and the Deputy Speakership and he prophesized next when I return, and I believe I will be Speaker and I believe Insha Allah, I will be the Speaker of the Green Chambers”,he said.
Wase who appreciated the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila and his colleagues on the successes recorded by the 9th House despite challenges since it’s coming in 2019.
The Deputy Speaker said that, the House had impacted on the lives of Nigerians in general and his constituents in particular.
Doguwa had while making a remark earlier pleaded with other contestants for the Speaker of the incoming 10th House to stepdown for the All Progressives Congress (APC) concensus candidate, Tajuddeen Abbas.
He said, as one of the contestant for the Speaker, others still in the race should reason and stepdown to ensure a smooth transition.
“It is in this light, I want to urge members like me who are still in the ring contesting to please see the light of reasoning to also stepdown in the interest of a seamless transition from the leadership here to the next Assembly.
“I am doing this, because I was part of the members who first of all started contesting for the Speakership position. Mr Speaker, I am by all standards qualified to be the Speaker.
“But, I want to believe that, Speakership is always an act of God, it is given by God by the will of the members of the House of Representatives. We cannot have two Speakers at the same time”.
It could be recalled that, Doguwa, Abubakar Makki Yelleman and Abdulraheem Olawuyi withdrew for Abbas at a meeting held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja weeks ago.
