Members-Elect of the incoming 10th House of Representatives form Cross Rivers State have promised to support Abbas Tajuddeen and Benjamin Kalu as the APC Concensus candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The lawmakers made the promise when they visited the APC Speakership candidate in Abuja on Sunday led by the Member-Elect, representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, Mike Etaba.
Speaking, Etaba said, they will support the APC concensus candidates when the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated in June, 2023 adding that, their decision was driven by the desire to put Cross River State in national political arena by electing people reckoning who would support the execution of federal government programmes and projects execution in the state in the long run.
The lawmakers stated, “It was with this factors in mind that majority of the representatives from Cross River State irrespective of political party affiliations, have resolved that the party is supreme and they would continue to give their unalloyed loyalty and support to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to them, they believed in Abbas’s ability and leadership credentials as an astute and experienced public service administrator and a political figure which will give him victory.
They noted that, his leadership of the 10th House of Representatives will reposition and take it to a new and better height of legislative excellence.
The Cross River State legislators-elect affirmed that the supremacy of the party must come to play in the election of the next leadership of the House.
They further stressed that, since Abbas Tajudeen and Benjamin Kalu are of the ruling party, they will, in conjunction with their colleagues bring in new ethics and transform the national legislative body to a higher pedestal.
In his response, Abbas Tajuddeen who thanked the Cross Rivers members-elect for the visit and their support as well as respecting the decision of the party on the choice of it’s concensus candidates to occupy the House leadership positions.
