An Upper Area Court, sitting in New Karu, Karu, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday remanded an applicant, Victor Samuel, in prison for allegedly stealing a cell phone, worth N72,000.
The judge, Evelyn Otusha, ordered that the defendant be remanded until May 24, to enable the police conclude investigation and also determine his bail condition.
The defendant, who resides at Agwan Mallam, Masaka, Nasarawa State, pleaded not guilty to the charges of mischief and theft.
The prosecutor, Christian Michael, told the court that the defendant was arrested and brought to the New Nyanya police station on May 4.
According to him, the defendant was alleged to have stolen a cell phone, valued at N72,000, from one Ifeanyi Awugoshi on April 24.
He said the defendant tore the bedroom window of Awugoshi, stole the said phone and disappeared to unknown destination until on May 4 when he was caught trying to steal another phone.
The offence, he said, contravened sections 327 and 288 of the Penal Code.
