Management of the Nigerian Army University Biu has honoured the founder of the university and former chief of army staff General Tukur Buratai and the exiting first deputy vice chancellor academics of the institution Professor Fatima Tahir.
The university organized a send-off dinner in honour of Buratai as a former pro-chancellor and chairman university governing council and Professor Fatima Tahir who was exiting the university following her appointment as first female vice chancellor of the Bauchi State University, Gadau.
Speaking at the occasion, the vice chancellor of the university Professor Kyari Mohammed said that the event was put together to honour the exiting principal officers describing the honourees as distinguished Nigerians who have served the university and are still contributing their quota to the progress of the nation at large.
“We are honouring Buratai for establishing a model university among many other very commendable achievements. Indeed, it is common sentiment that the former pro-chancellor of the university and out gone Chief of Army Staff deserves every adulation and recognition given to him for the mammoth impressions and legacies he has etched in the minds and hearts of many”. He said.
The vice chancellor also described the exiting deputy vice chancellor (Academic) Professor Fatima Tahir as an uncommon kind of woman who has served the university from its early times.
“When the university underwent a turbulent patch, Professor Tahir rose to the occasion as the university acting vice chancellor and steadied the ship”. He said.
Also honoured were the exiting vice chancellor (Administration) Professor Lawan Bala Buratai and the exiting university registrar Major General SS Ibrahim among others.
Responding on behalf of the honourees, Professor Fatima Tahir expressed gratitude to the university management for the honour.
She said starting a new university was not an easy task for them pointing out that they drew inspiration from the founding father of the university General Buratai even as she expressed willingness that as exiting principal officers, they were ever ready to serve the university in whatever capacity in the future.
