Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya has lost his polling unit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Governor Yahaya is the North East Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Atiku Abubakar gets 215 votes to defeat the APC presidential candidate,Tinubu who secured 186 votes at the unit.
The Presiding Officer (PO) of the polling unit located at Government Science Secondary School Gombe, Misheal Thomas announced the result after the voting and counting of the ballot papers.
However the loss was said to have not gone down well with the APC and it’s supporters in Gombe which prompted a move to render the result from poling useless.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the APC supporters allegedly led by the party’s youths leader, Kawu Mohammed Masu (Top-lero) snatched the result and ballot box to prevent it from going to the collation center.
After the attempt according to reports led to intervention by security agents and the APC youth leader was reportedly shot for trying to snatch the ballot box and results from the polling unit in Gombe metropolis.
Another source revealed that, the incident occurred at around 8:45 pm when officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were packing after announcing the results.
He said, “The incident occurred on the road leading INEC office, along Bauchi road in the Gombe metropolis, he (the youth leader) was hanging on the Hilux van when he ordered his boys to snatch the box and other materials.
“When he noticed the reaction of the security personnel providing security for the INEC officials he quickly tried to jump down from the van that was when he was shot in the left leg and which led to a fracture in the second”.
The source added that, he was quickly evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for treatment.
Soldiers were seen everywhere around the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department of the hospital, while doctors try to save the youth leader’s leg from being amputated.
