The world bank’s education programme known as ‘Better Education Service Delivery for All’ (BESDA) is to build a block of two classrooms for a qur’anic school called ‘Nurul Huda Islamiyya’ in Malam Jamo community of Akko local government area of Gombe State.
Gombe State BESDA chairman Dr Bappa Abdullahi Garkuwa made the promise during a graduation ceremony of 81 children who learned qur’anic recitation in the school.
He said the objective of BESDA in Nigeria is to increase equitable access for out-of-school children and improve literacy in focus states and strengthen accountability for results in basic education.
He said they have supported many islamic schools otherwise known as ‘Tsangaya schools’ and have been bringing interventions in schools in the state with a view to promoting basic western education.
He also donated the sum of N100, 000 to the graduands and solar lights to the village qur’anic school during the occasion.
He advised the parents in the village to enrol their wards in not only qur’anic schools but in conventional schools to acquire at least the basics of western knowledge.
Also speaking, the school’s headmaster Malam Adamu Shuaibu, lauded BESDA for the interventions and other individuals for their support to the school.
Our correspondent reports that dignitaries that attended the occasion include; the village head of the community Sanusi Ardo Akko, renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Khalifa Muhammad Basakkwace and lawmakers.
