The Ekiti House of Assembly has urged Ekiti citizens to maintain peace in the new year in order to have unprecedented transformation in the state.
The assembly also appealed to the citizens to support Gov. Biodun Oyebanji to enable the state have peaceful elections.
The assembly gave the admonition on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti in its New Year message signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye.
The lawmakers, in the statement, implored the citizens to identify with government’s efforts in tackling the security challenges confronting the state.
“Incidences of kidnapping, killings and banditry being experienced in some sections of the state need to be tackled to realise the government’s transformation plans.
“We would continue partnering with the governor in enacting laws to promote good governance and speedy transformation of Ekiti,” the statement read.
The statement indicated that the lawmakers expressed joy over the transformative strides being witnessed under the new government.
“The contributions of Ekiti people are needed in the new year for the actualisation of the governor’s electioneering promises to them.
“We congratulate Ekiti people and Nigerians for witnessing the new year and wish them stable, peaceful and progressive governance in 2023.
“We all have to take ownership of government by showing interest and fulfilling our obligations as patriotic citizens of this state in 2023, the statement read.
The lawmakers, in the statement, urged Ekiti citizens to propagate the culture of togetherness which it inherited from their forebears.
`We should reject the “pull-him-down” syndrome, religious and ethnic-based politics.
“All these create segregation, as well as mistrust in the leadership system,” the statement said.
The lawmakers praised the citizens for their meaningful contributions to the development of the state and assured them of continued robust representations.
“We would also continue implementing our oversight functions in the best interest of the people,” the statement read.
