Gombe State’s Commissioner of Police, CP. Oqua Etim has reiterated the commitment of the state command to collaborate with other security agencies and stakeholders to provide sufficient crime preventive measures before, during and after the Christmas and New Year Festivities.
He disclosed this in a statement signed by the Command’s Spokesperson, ASP. Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar on Saturday.
He stressed that the ban on the sale, purchase and use of fireworks (“Knockouts” or “Bangers”) and other explosives is still inforce in the State.
CP.Etim therefore warned that anyone caught selling or lighting up fireworks and explosives of any kind, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The Commissioner also ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Tactical/Operational Units and other strategic Commanders of the Command, to deploy all the Intelligence and operational assets at their disposal to ensure that criminal flashpoints, highways, streets and other places of public interest within their Area of Responsibilities (AORs), are effectively patrolled and Policed, for a hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations in the State.
He further urged them to ensure that Police operatives under their watch discharge their duties in accordance with extant laws and rules of engagement of the Nigeria Police Force.
He said, they should conduct themselves professionally, remain resolute and shun all acts of corruption, extortion, as well as respect fundamental human rights of citizens.
The CP also called on Community Leaders, Parents and Guardians to be accountable for their subjects, children wards and report any suspected act in their environs.
He further urge motorist to abide by traffic regulations and avoid over speeding/reckless driving which may endanger their lives and that of other commuters.
He added that residents of the State should remain supportive by being vigilant, law-abiding and promptly report criminals and their activities at the nearest Police Station, or via Command Complaint lines 08150567771 or via NPF Rescue-me Application.
