A 21-year-old man, Praise James, who allegedly broke into a residential house and stole items worth N365,000, on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
James, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on Dec. 1, at 10.00 a.m. at No. 10b, Tunde Ilufoye St., Egan, Igando, Lagos.
According to him, the defendant broke into the house of one Mrs Famoroti Toyin and stole a HP laptop valued at N170,000, three gold wedding rings worth N100,000 and a wristwatch worth N95,000.
Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Ariyo also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 9, 2023 for mention.
