After intense criticism over the arrest and detention of Federal University Dutse (FUD, Aminu Mohammed, the First Lady, Aisha Buhari has withdrawn the case against him.
Prosecution counsel Fidelis Ogbobe, relying on Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, he moved the application for the withdrawal of the case against the accused on Friday.
He said, the First Lady withdrew the case following interventions and calls by we’ll meaning Nigerians and being the mother of the nation, she decided to discontinue the case.
In his ruling, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court accepted the application and commended Mrs Buhari for taking the “bold steps” to forgive the accused.
After issuing the release warrant for the accused, he called on parents to always monitor their children to prevent them from falling into similar situations.
It could be recalled that, Mohammed, a final year student of environmental sciences was arrested over a social media post which was alleged to be defamatory against the wife of the president.
His arrest and alleged torture by security agents attached to her has generated widespread condemnation from Nigerians and other entities including Amnesty International and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) which threaten to embark on a nationwide protest to demand his release.
