An Unemployed man, Ibrahim Mohammed, was on Monday docked in an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing three different types of clothing material, known as Shedda.
The Police charged Mohammed, who is of no fixed address, with theft of the materials, worth N195,000.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that sometime in Sept., the defendant entered the complainants’ shop located at Eddy V.C Hotel, Garki, Abuja under the guise of patronising him and stole the materials.
Osho said during police investigation, the defendant was arrested, but the stolen materials were yet to be recovered from him.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with a ‘reasonable’ surety.
Mohammed ordered that the surety, whose address must be verified by the registrar, must also be resident within the courts’ jurisdiction.
He further ordered that the surety must deposit their national identification card with the court; and then adjourned the case until Dec. 8, for further hearing.
