Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Muhammad Danjuma Goje has given out more than N130 million grants to Small and Medium Scale entrepreneurs in the senatorial district.
The grant was disbursed to the beneficiaries through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) as part of his constituency empowerment programme.
Five beneficiaries were selected from each of the 872 polling units of the senatorial district who underwent entrepreneurship skills training programmes in different areas.
Speaking during the occasion, which took place, on Saturday, in Gombe, Senator Goje who was represented by his aide, Danjuma Babayo Kwadan, said the initiative was a way of empowering the weak in the society to be strong.
The Senator noted that, youth unemployment remained one of the greatest challenges of the society and there was a need to tackle it through skill acquisition.
He assured that, the empowerment and skills acquisition training would be a continuous exercise, considering the need to touch the lives of his constituents in any way possible.
He said, “The target is for gainful employment for youths and women in Gombe Central zone irrespective of sex, tribe, religion or political affiliation”.
It could be recalled that, Senator Goje had few months ago spent hundreds of millions to empower his constituents in Akko and Yamaltu Deba, the two local government areas that made up the senatorial district.
