Zamfara state, Bello Mohammed Mutawalle has promised to.implement minimum wage payment to workers in the state in November.
According to a statement by his Press Secretary, Jamilu Iliyasu Birnin Magaji, he made the promise on Monday when he received leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and others unions who paid him a thank you visit at Government House Gusau on Moday.
He disclosed that, his administration has sympathy for workers in the state and as former civil servant, he has a personal feeling for the worker, hence the decision to provide workers with all the necessary entitlements.
Governor Matawalle assured that he will start implementing the N30,000 National minimum wage to all civil servants in the state.
He noted that, the upliftment of workers and pensioners will continue to be accorded top priority by his Administration, in order to meet the yearnings and welfare of Zamfara state workers for effective service delivery.
The Governor called on the organised Labour in the state to help the government by blocking leakages and fraudulent acts among civil servants to enable government provide all the needed support and welfare for the workers.
He said the state Government will effect the full payment of pension and gratuity to them as soon as deductions from the state funds were stopped by December, this year.
He promised that, his administration will build a befitting Labour House in Gusau, the state capital to enhance activities of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress as well as the organised Labour in the state.
He disclosed that, the state Government has concluded arrangements to provide foodstuffs to the entire civil servants in the state on loan at a very subsidized prices.
Earlier, the state NLC chairman,Comrade Sani Halliru and his counterpart of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Saidu Mudi Allahuwa said they visited him to express their appreciation for his approval to implement the N30,000 National minimum wage in Zamfara state with effect from November this year.
The two labour leaders said, his approval for the payment of the National minimum wage to the state workers has solved the lingering labour issues between the organised Labour and the state Government.
They commended him for reviewing the pension of retired permanent secretaries since the creation of Zamfara state to date.
The Labour leaders called for the full payment of gratuities and other entitlements to all categories of retired civil servants in the state.
The meeting was attended by the former Minister of Finance who doubles as the Chairman of the National minimum wage implementation committee in Zamfara state, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda Gusau, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, Chief of Staff Government House, Malam Ibrahim Suleiman, State Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gayari.
Others are; Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Comrade Jalaluddeen Maradun, Commissioners of Information and Special duties, Alh Ibrahim Dosara and Alh Abdulaziz Ahmed Nahuce respectively as well as special Advisers on Labour Matters and Political Affairs, Comrade Bello Galadima Durumbu, and Alh Ibrahim Maaji among other senior Government officials.
