The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, has donated equipment, consumables and adopted a male ward at the General Hospital in Badagry, Lagos.
Speaking shortly after the presentation of the equipment on Tuesday, Hunpe said the initiative was the outcome of a meeting with the management of the hospital with some dignitaries to assist the hospital.
Hunpe disclosed that at the meeting they came up with request that they needed the support and help of the indigenes.
He said they wanted them to be part of the development of the hospital.
“So, I agreed to adopt male ward and we have come here as promised to donate equipment and consumables and also to equip the male ward adopted with beddings, ceiling fans and other modern equipment,” he said.
Hunpe said that the money spent on the hospital equipment was deducted from the 2022 yearly constituency allowance known as the Zonal Intervention Programme (ZIP).
“Parts of the equipment were used to equip Yewanapon primary health centre in Araromi-Ale, Badagry.
“The constituency allowance amounted to N54,600,000 and it was given to the contractor that was awarded the contract to supply the equipment,” he said.
The lawmaker commended the Governor of Lagos, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his committed to infrastructural development of the hospital.
Responding, Dr Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of the hospital, said he was highly excited to witness this kind of gesture for this magnitude.
“Today, our indisputable representative has demonstrated a rare gesture by adopting the hospital male ward; its adoption is not just a lay gesture.
“It comes with a significant rebranding of the ward with beds, and other important worthy equipment.
“It is also note worthy to know that this is the first time such is happening at the General Hospital Badagry.
“Now, you all have just said the hospital has witnessed a lot of transformation; the honour goes to the Governor Sanwo-Olu.
“The Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, followed by our Permanent Secretaries in the Ministry of Health and Health Service Commission and all the directors who are just here,” he said.
He commended the lawmaker for the kind gesture in giving back to society.
“We want more to keep coming, and we will honour you and accept it, Lagos State Government will recognise you,” he added.
In his remarks, Chief Sannu Michael, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry, commended the lawmaker for donating the equipment to the hospital.
