The Taraba South Senatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seems still undecided six weeks after the two parallel elections to produce the Senatorial candidate for the zone for the 2023 elections produced two different winners.
The contest, on 30th May, was between David SU jimkuta and Shiddi L. Danjuma.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised APC Senatorial Primary Election 5-man committee chaired by Dr. Mohammed Alkali conducted an indirect primary with 250 delegates.
At the end of the election, Dr. Alkali announced 250 as the total number of voters; 250 total number of accredited voters; 250 as total number of votes cast; 250 as total number of valid votes; showing no invalid votes.
He declared David SU Jimkuta, who polled 170, as the winner of the election and, therefore, the APC senatorial candidate for zone, having defeated Shiddi L Danjuma, who polled 80.
However, a section of the party held a parallel primary election with a committee under one Salisu Bala Mohammed through the direct process.
Mohammed, at the end of this factional election, announced 89,290 as the total number of voters; 68,771 accredited voters; 68,266 total number of votes cast; 68,266 valid votes; showing no invalid votes.
He declared, Shiddi L. Danjuma, who got 53,909 votes as the winner and, therefore, the APC senatorial candidate, having defeated David Jimkuta, who got 14,357 votes.
Daylight Reporters impeccably gathered that the APC, however, submitted the name of Shiddi L Danjuma to INEC as the Taraba South Senatorial Candidate, instead of David Jimkuta, whose candidature was decided at a primary election conducted by the committee it despatched to Taraba for that purpose.
“We have already filed a case before the Federal High Court, Abuja and we are waiting for a date for the case mention by the court,” an anonymous associate of Jimkuta told Daylight Reporters on phone.
