Mr Matthew Ovey has assumed duty as the new Commandant, Imo Command, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ovey took over from the erstwhile Acting Commandant, Mr Chukwuemeka Odimba, in a brief ceremony at the command headquarters in Owerri on Tuesday.
Ovey thanked the outgoing commandant and solicited the support of all personnel to enable the command discharge its responsibilities effectively.
He appreciated the Commandant-General, Mr Ahmed Abubakar-Audi, for the appointment and pledged to justify the trust reposed in him.
The commandant said he would collaborate with other security agencies to tackle crime in the state.
“As a security agency, we must synergise with other security agencies so as to move the country forward.
“The government and citizens of Nigeria are looking up to us to ensure that we succeed as a nation, as such we must work assiduously as a team to achieve this,” he said.
The commandant urged the personnel to clamp down on enemies of the state who destroy government assets and foment trouble.
Ovey said he would also endeavour to sustain peace in the state, as there will be no development without peace.
Earlier, Odimba who took over as acting commander in April, expressed appreciation to the Commandant General for the opportunity to head the command.
He urged officers and men of the command to support Ovey in the task of protecting critical national assets and ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state.
