The Minister of Transport during the former administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, Barr. Abdullahi Idris Umar, on Tuesday, returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State.
Barr Umar had sojourned for a while in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) after his decampment from the PDP.
Idris, a one-time Senator and member Federal House of Representatives, made the declaration on Tuesday in Deba, Yamaltu Deba local government of the state, when he led his supporters to inform the LGA party officials and stakeholders of the PDP of his return to the party.
He said the decision was in response to the yearnings of his people in Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
“I cannot go against the decision of the popular opinions of my people. Our people are in dare need of change and we will work towards achieving that,” he said.
“We are on a rescue mission under PDP,’’ he said and appealed to the people to vote out APC in 2023.
Confirming his defection, Chairman of the PDP in Yamaltu Deba LGA, said that the party was glad to receive the former Minister into its fold and appealed to other founding members of the party who had defected to other political parties, to return to the PDP, saying the umbrella was big enough to accommodate all members of the party.
He said: “We are happy that Barrister Idris is back to the PDP. We also want to appeal to our members who left the party for one reason or the other, to return because we are now a very united party and we are ready to take over power in 2023,” he said.
