Dr Habiba Ismail, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee(C-MAC), Bauchi Specialist Hospital, has expressed concern over the increase in cases of fibroid tumour among women of reproductive age in Bauchi State.
Ismail made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi.
She said that the disease could cause infertility in women.
According to the medical doctor, there is no scientific evidence on the cause of the tumour and it is mainly diagnosed in African women.
“There is no weekly surgical list in the hospital without a patient of fibroid.
“Fibroid is a noncancerous tumour that can grow in and on your uterus, and is common among reproductive age women.
“The symptoms are heavy menstrual flow, abnormal monthly menstrual cycles, to mention but a few,” she said.
Ismail advised women to promptly report such symptoms to healthcare facility for the necessary action.
