The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has dismissed as mischievous and false reports that some quarters are planning foul play in its forthcoming primary elections in the state.
The State APC spokesman, Yusuf Idris, said the reports, sourced from a petition, were carried by some national dailies.
The petition, he said, emanated from two ‘suspicious’ groups called APC Youth Solidarity Network (APCYSN) and the Guardian of Democracy and Development Initiative (GoDDI).
“The mischief makers tried to quote some sections of the party constitution the APC leadership is in flagrant abuse of,” saying, however, that they ended up exhibiting their ignorance of the procedures for the conduct of the exercise and who and who is legible to participate.
The Zamfara APC spokesman recalled that the party has been waxing stronger due to Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s reconciliation drive last week, with the support of stakeholders, including the national leadership of the party, which succeeded in uniting and solidifying the party to enable it sustain its control in the state’s political landscape.
“Therefore, how can an outsider who is, possibly, being financially enticed by the disgruntled opposition, jump from nowhere to claim all is not well in a party that is celebrating its reunion unprecedented since 1999?” Gusau queried.
He said the guideline for the conduct of State House of Assembly requires the votes of all ward Executive (27 Exco members), Local Government Executive (27 LG Exco within the Constituency, State Officials (State Exco within the Constituency), National Officers ( National Exco) from the Constituency, Governor and Deputy Governor from the Constituency, Serving and Past National Assembly members within the Constituency, Serving and Former State Assembly members within the Constituency, Serving Elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of the council within the Constituency and Serving Elected Councilors from the Constituency.
For National Assembly Elections (House of Representatives and Senators), there must be Ward Chairman and Secretary, 5 Adhoc LG Delegates from each ward LG Executive (27 LG Exco), State Executive ( Exco members), National Executive (Exco members), Governor and Deputy Governor, Serving and Past National Assembly members, Serving and Past state Assembly members, Serving Elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of the council, Serving Elected Councilors from each Electoral ward.
For Governor, the delegates will compriseh Chairman and Secretary, 5 Adhoc State Delegates from each ward, State Executive (Exco members), National Executive members, Serving and Past Governors and Deputy Governors within the state, Serving and Past National Assembly members, Serving and National Assembly members, Serving Elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of the council and Serving Elected Councilors from each Electoral ward.
Finally for President, delegates will be made up of National Executive ( Exco) members, Serving and Past President and Vice President, Serving And Past Governors and Deputy Governors, Serving And Past National Assembly members, Serving Speakers, Deputy and Principal Officers of the state House of Assembly, State Working Committee of the Party ( Principal Officers), LG Party Chairman and Secretary of the party, Serving Elected Chairman of the council and 3 National Delegates from each Local Government Area.
“With all these stringent measures in place as arranged by the party, the APC has surely given equal opportunity to all aspirants and it will remove all forms of suspicion except for the outsiders who are bent on causing disunity,” the Zamfara APC spokesman said.
