A 29-year-old estate agent, Chuks Enebeli, was on Wednesday docked in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a tenant of N173, 900.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuiomose, told court that the defendant committed the offence on June 24 at about 9.30 a.m. at No. 9, Obidinma Str., Victory Estate, Iba in Ojo, near Lagos.
“The defendant being an estate agent obtained the sum of N173, 900 from one Jeremiah Udo, under the pretence of renting out a room and parlour, self-contained, a representation he knows to be false.
“The defendant stole the sum of N173, 900 from the complainant.”
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 24 for mention.
