A Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 34-year-old driver, Abubakar Abdullahi and two others to three weeks community service for stealing 51 bags of cement.
Abdullahi, along with the other two convicts, Abubakar Abdulmalik 23 and Salisu Dani 35, were arraigned on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft by servant, breach of trust and cheating.
The magistrate, Umar Dodo, sentenced the convicts to the community service without option of fine after they pleaded guilty to the offence and prayed the court for mercy.
The magistrate, therefore, ordered them to sweep the court premises for three weeks.
Earlier, the prosecutor, John Ijagbemi, told the court that the complainant, Abdulmajid Mohammed, on behalf of his employer Mouna Mo Construction Company, reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji Divisional Police Station on March 15.
Ijagbemi in addition said that the convicts conspired amongst themselves and stole 51 bags of cement belonging to the company and sold them.
He stated that in order to cover their track, the convicts filled same number of empty bags with sand.
He said that during police investigation, they admitted to have committed the offence.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provision of sections 97, 287, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.
