The police on Thursday arraigned one Sunday John, 25, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly entering into a compound with the intention to steal.
The defendant, whose address was not provided. is charged on a count of attempted stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at No.1, Lynson Chemical Ave., Ota, at 6:10 a.m.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant forcefully entered into the compound of one Mr Felix Okereke, the complainant, with the intention to steal.
He said that the defendant was unable to explain what he was looking for when he was caught by a vigilante.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and have evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until March 30 for hearing.
