Following the huge unpaid electricity bills by out-going tenants in Kano franchise areas, the Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), has urged intending tenants to always verify electricity bill status before renting apartments in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States respectively.
According to the Management, the advice had become imperative in view of the observations made by field staff of KEDCO and the need to keep tenants abreast and also to avoid inheriting bills of services that were never rendered to them.
The company gave the advice in a statement signed and issued by its
head of corporate communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai and made available to newsmen on Tuesday morning.
In the statement, “It has been observed that many tenants pay percentage of their bills while some even refuse to pay or skip payments and this has sadly accumulated huge unpaid debts which are often left unpaid when such tenants are packing from those houses.
“In this regard also we want to kindly advise our numerous customers to cultivate the habit of paying their bills in full to avoid leaving behind huge unpaid bills which may create issues for intending tenants, KEDCO and landlords.
“We also urge all landlords to be involved in the electricity bill status of their properties to avoid any challenge with KEDCO.
“It is unfair to heap the huge outstanding electricity bills on people that didn’t enjoy the services; customers must take responsibility for their bills in the overall interest of the power sector.”
