An Iyaganku Family Court sitting at Ibadan, on Thursday, ordered the remand of one David Akinloye, 41, in Abolongo Correctional Centre, Oyo, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs Patricia Adetuyibi, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered his remand in the correctional facility, pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Adetuyibi, thereafter, adjourned the matter till May 12, for mention.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akinloye, of Amuloko area of Ibadan, was arraigned on a count charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Insp Folake Ewe, told the court that Akinloye, on Feb. 28, at about 12 midnight at Amuloko, Idi-Ose area of Ibadan, had canal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl without her consent.
Ewe said: “The victim is an auxiliary nurse in her area, known by the defendant who asked her to come and treat him at home.
“After the treatment, the defendant told her that he could help her secure admission into Oyo State School of Nursing, to which the victim showed interest.
“She (the victim) later went to the defendant’s house to finalise matters on the admission when the defendant pounced on her and raped her.”
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 34 of Oyo State Child’s Right Law, 2006.
