An alleged plot by the PDP in Zamfara State to prune drown proceedings on the impeachment of the state Deputy Governor, Barr. Mahadi Ali Gusau by the State House of Assembly hit a brickwall at the Abuja High Court 5, Monday 14th February.
The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, refused to grant the plea by Mahadi’s legal counsel, Chief E C Ukala (SAN), to order for the maintenance of status quo in the executive hiararchy of the state or, alternatively, to direct Counsel to Governor Bello Matawalle, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, the Chief Judge of Zamfara State and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to give an undertaking on maintaining the status quo.
The state House of Assembly, a fortnight ago, began the process to impeach the deputy governor over alleged abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds.
The PDP, at both the state and national levels, has allegedly been exploring different ways and means, including intimidation, threats, violence and the courts to clip the process.
Following its alleged unsuccessful moves in that regard at the state level, the PDP sought to the FCT court to restrain the legislative arm from carrying out its legitimate duty, for which reason, a plea the court denied with an adjournment of the case to March 10, 2022 for definite hearing.
