Significant shifts of allegiance have commenced among the supporters of the two factions of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State as the country speeds up towards the 2023 general elections.
Notably, Alhaji Bashir Adamu Imad, a two-time governorship candidate in the state and close ally of former governor, AbdulAziz Yari, the strongman of one of the factions, has shifted his allegiance to the incumbent Governor Bello Matawalle.
His decision was announced by a statement issued, Saturday, 5th February, by the state Publicity Secretary of APC, Yusuf Idris.
Imad contested the Zamfara governorship under the PDP in 2015 and PPN in 2019. He was also the state’s leader of the defunct CPC.
Now a member of the APC in Madawaki Ward, Gusau Local Government Area, Imad said he decided to join the Matawalle camp, impressed by what he described as the governor’s sincere and committed style of leadership of the state.
He described the governor’s “Sterling qualities” and efforts at tackling insecurity and deciminating armed banditry and other heineous crimes as unequalled.
He said he had watched the passionate way the governor has been administering the state and, therefore, called on his supporters to lend their unflinching support to the Matawalle Administration yo enable the governor pilot the Zamfara ship to enviable prosperity.
Receiving him, Governor Bello Matawalle described Imad as a personal friend and political associate, noting he has remarkable interest and committment to the prosperity of the state.
Matawalle said Imad’s entrance into the APC would boost his efforts at obtaining more workable ideas for the development of the state.
