Members of the Gombe State House of Assembly elected under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) have denied endorsing the presidential bid of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.
There were reports that all state lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC from the North East Zone endorsed the 2023 presidential aspiration of Bello.
However, a statement issued on Friday by Gombe Assembly’s Deputy House Leader, Sadam Bello (Funakaye North) and Adamu Sale Pata (Yamaltu East), on behalf of their colleagues, distanced themselves from the said endorsement of the Kogi state governor.
According to the duo, they did not attend the Bauchi meeting and were not informed before their colleagues endorsed Yahaya Bello.
“As legislators from the North East zone elected under the platform of the APC, we hereby announce that we are not part of those that declared their support to the presidential bid of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.”
“As loyal party members, we abide by the rules and regulations guiding our great party and every political party has a leadership, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is the leader of the APC in Gombe State.
“Therefore, we are waiting for him to finish his consultation and give us directive. And whatever directives he gave we will abide by it, because of our unalloyed support for him as a result of unprecedented development we have witnessed under his leadership,” Bello said.
They, however, said they stand with the vote of confidence passed on President Muhammadu Buhari, which they said was borne out of his sterling and cohesive leadership.
The legislators also commended Governor Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, for his efforts at repositioning the party.
