Ahead of the 2023 elections, a political group ‘Northern youth coalition for Tinibu/Lalong, has endorsed the APC national leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next president and the governor of plateau state Simon Lalong as his vice.
Addressing Journalists at Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa tomb Bauchi at the weekend, the spokesperson of the group, Abubakar Ahmed, said on justice ground, the APC should support Tinubu as the presidential flag bearer of the party, adding that he (Tinubu) was instrumental to the merger of political parties to form APC and its victory in the 2015 and 2019 polls respectively.
He said since the north had ruled for two terms, power should move to the south in the 2023 election.
Abubakar opined that, Lalong who hails from north central deserves the vice presidential seat, while saying that north central is the most marginalized zone in the north.
The group noted that north west has always produced president with north east getting the seat of vice president, secretary to the government of the federation while the middle belt was dominated.
“The north having served her second and final term in 2023, the general consensus is that power is going to be shifted to the southern part of the country in order to respect the rotational principles enshrined in the constitution of most of the major political parties.
“Whatever the decision of the party is with respect to the rotation, we will position our candidates Bola Tinubu and Simon Lalong as president and vice president respectively.
“The youth from the 19 northern states have come under this auspices of the northern youth coalition to call on them to heed to this clarion call and accept our invitation to run for the offices of the president and vice president of the federal republic of Nigeria come 2023”. The group said.
