The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) henchman and former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has advised the mainstream opposition party to challenge the Electoral Act Amendment Bill in court.
“PDP should set up all the necessary machinery to challenge this piece of legislation in Court”, the former Foreign Affairs Minister said in his Twitter handle.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled Senate of plotting to impose the legislation on all other political parties.
“I understand that the APC-dominated Nigerian Senate has legislated that Political Parties must conduct DIRECT Primaries in choosing their Candidates into elective offices,” he said.
“While the Nigerian Constitution guarantees the safe-guard of our plural Democracy, the same Constitution inherently guarantees the Parties to regulate the conduct of their affairs and mandates the Independent Electoral Commission to oversee compliance of their (Parties) Constitution a copy of which is deposited with the electoral body,” the PDP top-notcher observed.
Lamido rebuked the Senate: “Now for the APC Nigerian Senate to turn itself into a Sole Administrator of Political parties tantamounts to political self-help of APC’s dwindling political fortune.”
