As thousands of residents of Turare and Dogon Ruwa communities under Dustin-ma Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday morning blocked a highway to protest repeated attacks by armed bandits on their community, Hon. Hamza Yususa Jibiya has disclosed to Daylight Reporters that lives of residents of Katsina state is in danger.
While speaking to our correspondent on phone, he explained that the protest followed an attack on the said communities.
Jibiya, a Deputy Chairman, National Youth Council, Katsina State Chapter who was in support of the peaceful protest, said it becomes important for the people of the affected communities to stage a protest as a wake up call to the people at the helms of affairs.
“The protest is a way of showing their displeasure over the series of attacks in the state.
“It will interest you to know that the bandits attacks on Katsina communities are under reported, so, it is important for the affected people to express their views and feelings on the issue of banditry and insecurity in the state.” He said.
Though, Jibiya admitted that the governor had visited the affected communities, assuring the residents of their safety.
The protest is coming days after gunmen suspected to be bandits killed Mallam Sadi, Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress in Yau-Yau/Mallamawa ward under Batsari Local Government Area of the state.
The protesters, comprising adults and children, asked President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Masari to resign over the spate of insecurity in the state.
Recall that, while this is also happening, Governor Masari had visited Mr President and informed him on the prevailing security challenges bedevilling the state.
