A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) ‘Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria’ (CRUDAN) has advised government at all levels to make good use of the media to foster unity and solve conflicts in the country.
Programme Officer of CRUDAN in charge of central zone Tulari Tine gave the advice Tuesday at the opening ceremony of a three days workshop to journalists on Disaster Risk Reduction and peace building held at Paradise Homedec International Hotel lafia, Nassarawa state.
He said the media if properly utilized can reorient the compatriots and promote peaceful coexistence in the nation.
According to him, the training was supported by ‘Bread for the world’ Germany adding that the topic Disaster Risk Reduction was chosen in view of the current climate change and environmental hazards such as floodings experienced in parts of the country that led to loss of wealth by farmers and herders.
The CRUDAN’s programme officer said the journalists would be equiped during the training with the requisite knowledge and skills to promote safety and resilience to conflicts and disasters.
He said the participants would also be trained on peace building so that they would pass the message in their media reportage.
Tulari noted that the NGO was established since 1990 with the objective of facilitating developments in rural and urban areas of the country.
